On September 18, 1783, Leonhard Euler, Swiss mathematician (Euler's Constant), died of a brain hemorrhage at the age of 76. An excerpt from the article:
"Death and Legacy
Euler, working on the day of his passing, suffered from a brain hemorrhage and died during the night of September 18, 1783, in St. Petersburg.
Euler's legacy has been enormous in terms of shaping the modern playing field of mathematics and engineering, with his work highlighted by the Mathematical Association of America and honored by mathematicians around the world. A massive project that has taken more than a century to complete, Leonhardi Euleri Opera Omnia is a full presentation of his work and has had dozens of volumes published over the years. The last two Opera Omnia volumes are tentatively scheduled for a 2014 release date."

SGT (Join to see) Euler has a lot of great theorem and was a very successful contributor to the world of mathematics advancing the art by leaps and bounds during his lifetime. I had a class once in college; History of Mathematics. There was more to it than just history. It was both writing and oral intensive. I had to do seven presentations and five papers in that class. One of them was dissecting his theorems and explaining it in detail in front of the class. Let me tell you, I learned one hell of a lot from that class!

SPC Nancy Greene - With honors classes I had them research a famous mathematician and do a presentation in front of the class and explain one of their major contributions to the world of mathematics. It was test grade. Some of them really did the research and surprised me. The best report of the class (unannounced before they did their presentations) got a certificate. It was a lot of fun.
