Totally a failure in the system and those presiding over the case! A punitive letter of reprimand is a clear case of slapped on the hand! Had this been an E-9 or below it would 99.9 10ths of the time resulted in a courtsmartial. The loss of 1 life due to this type of incident should have had a much clearer message resonated with a courts martial. In addition not allowed to retire, loss of rank 01,loss of all pays and allowances. Additionally serve a significant sentence as allowed by the letter of legal statutes for each blue jacket lost!

Seems pretty light, considering the loss of life.

LCDR (Join to see) So, as I read this and if I am reading it correctly, the NJP was for "dereliction in the performance of duties for his part in the Aug. 21 collision that killed 10 sailors and received a punitive letter of reprimand after a nonjudicial punishment hearing". Apparently he bears no responsibility in the deaths of those 10 sailors? Is that how you all read this? Just poor judgement in the training Program?? Wow is all I can say.

WOW Indeed. How are you guilty enough to get a punitive letter of reprimand after a nonjudicial punishment hearing and yet not face Court Martial in the DEATHS of 10 Sailors? I am appalled!
