Thank you SGT Jason T for making us aware that the U.S. Army has been testing prototypes of a cold-weather Soft Wall Shelter. So far testing of this shelter which comes in kit form to add, subtract depending on environment and situation.
"Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Soldier Center, with support from the Army's Manufacturing Technology program, known as ManTech, developed a thermal shelter insulation liner with Electromagnetic Interference, or EMI, shielding that significantly reduces detection of electromagnetic signatures."
It is interesting to me that the Army renamed Research, Development and Engineering Command to Combat Capabilities Development Command "(CCDC) and moved it from the Army Materiel Command to the Army Futures Command. CCDC comprises eight major and three international centers and laboratories."

After years of studying Soviet battle doctrine, aircraft and vehicle identification, we quit cold turkey and tossed it for MOUT and desert operations.
Now, here in 2019, it looks like we may have to dig those old manuals out! I know an old Army Navy surplus store that sell them for 50 cents each, LOL.
10th Mountain, get ready soldiers, your going to get a lot of use if someone decides to step across that line.

A lot of thinking went into that. Now if they can get the outside of the tents to match the temp of the environment with no variation, it would also take care of hiding its thermal signatures.
Great share brother.

Washers to make sure they stayed togerher.. they were actually quite
Comfortable.. We had a cook have to leave from another unit and we prayed we got no more.. we were actually adequately manned so we had been able to fold that cot and stick it in a corner..and gave us more room.. (from 7 to 6). We were there 6 mo. Near the end (I had 2 days and a wake up) another
SSGT who was Sr. Man got chewed on because he didn’t let the billeting NCO knowvwe had room for another guy. (He was going to
take care of his buds in the Russian bunker that was cooler and half buried and move a guy from there
And giving them only 6 (their bunker was 1-1:2 the size of ours..
Our SasGT asked when you wanna send this guy.? How’s 3 days sound ? Yeah really good ! Good.. ya get him tomorrow ! Oh gee, thanks ! Just for that I want the inside walls scrubbed and wiped and apply some wintergreen to freshen that hole up! I was hoping they could of waited for me to clear out and get back to Germsny and then Langley .. That 6 months had gone fast .. the last 3 days even faster .. We had storms all the way
Back to Italy.. I ate a light breakfast.. Come on we got plenty of bacon ! Good greazy pancakes !
No thanks ! Got some greazy
Scrambled eggs here.. I told you no thanks ! I think he wanted me to. Barf on that c-141 .. Here I made you a half lb bacon ssndwich ! That’s ok you eat it ! I hurried an got out of there !! Thanks to my light breakfast, the choppy sky didn’t seem as choppy.. We landed in Italy for 2 hrs... there was the crew, 7 pacs and 3 pallets loaded at Cairo going to Germsny.. so we were in the jump seats.. my field jacket was my cushion. The flight to Ramstein shouldn’t take that long..,about 1–1/2 hrs. So I tried napping.. HEY .. No napping, your
On duty!.. stay awake ! We had a Lt Col in our group.. he didn’t wake him .and he wanted to know why ?
That LTC tore him a new exhaust
And made him apologize to each of us....Did I feel better? Somewhat...? Fortunately I got a flight at 1800 out of Rhein Main.. Direct to McGuire in N.J. I seen some Army guys I knew from Fort Eustis (this is next day).. they were Chopper crew.. Let us talk to our W.O.2 .. He said O.K. .. I went over to Base Ops and signed their paperwork. Ahalf hour later I was on my way to Langley and their ops was right by
6ACCS. I thought I’d have to get a ride from Ft Eustis.. I went over to
The 6ACCS dining facility.. waited about a half hour and Sarge dropped me by my barracks.. it was great to be home ! I went
To the orderly rm and signed in. From the TDY.. I’d go to finance and turn in my voucher so I could get paid. They had stuff so automated they said they could of had it there in 10 min. I knew how
That worked.. then it be 3 days !
I took it and had it an hour later I had all my voucher times including my Chopper ride.on a gunship ! So cool. We flew back over water. So I had a vest on. Thevtrip was much faster (we were in s military flight zone.). I think he had that going as fast as possible.., he dipped at a 45• angle and I seen some women tanning with tops unsnapped they were belly down .. I kept that adventure to myself .. we had s few that wouldn’t like that.. I had a chit from the ops guy at 6ACCS for the Chopper flight # xxxxx -xx. The gal st finance asked what the chit was for .. for the Chopper I got a ride home from McGuire on.. were
You authorized ? Obviously I was.. they gave me a flight ! She was a GS low level employee.. she said go to the widow . I got my TDY $$$
I made out good.. it wasn’t great.. I
No transport money, no waiting ..
not for no taxis or buses.. She called me back and I was half out the door already . I went back to my room and relaxed an hour maybe more.. went to the Airmen’s D.F. Check my schedule.. I wasn’t on until Monday.. Went to the exchange.. it just felt good to be back.. I had all my clothes washed .. turned my whites to Linen exch. Get them done.. They go to Fort Lee., get them back Tues or Wed.
Got back found note in envelope under door. It was from Finance..
they wanted $15 for my landing fee from the hrlecopter! They gotta be kidding! It was 1600.. tomorrow
Is Saturday.. Please pay by 1530 Friday.. It was in that GS4s script..
I had on my copy the W2 had me as crew.. for the simple reason he couldn’t have pax.. So if the form had me as crew how is. He. Blue to wrangle $15 out of me? I wentMonday.. with my copy of the chit that said I was crew.. ( normally there were 4, he wasn’t there so I was #4 that day ! I showed my copy to a MSGT.. looks good to me and signs off on jt.. There free and
Clear ! She calls again.. where
Is my $15. ? I says see that line #7
SignTure of approving official? See. The name ? Yes.. talk to him s d I hung up. She nevercallled me back so they must of settled it.. i didn’t see it come off my pay.. So I wasn’t
going to fret .. I seen her about a week later at base exch. So she was a Military dependent ... She kept cast’g me the stink eye .. I wasn’t going to confront her.. I
Didn’t need to.. I seen her 3 or 4 times. More.. I never seen hr st the
NCO club.. maybe her husband didn’t have enough Rank ? Or it just happened that way?.. kind of good .. A SSGT informed me that she hung for that $15.. Why.. the MSGT signed off on it .. Yesh he said and the Lt accepted it.. So what’s her major malfunction I asked.. He said the MSGT retired and she couldn’t go after him.. Why, he’s a MSGT. Did he have authority or not ? I don’t know, it’s not my section .said my bud.. I’m like lost
On this .. At a later date I’m at 6ACCS. and see my Army bud .. I asked him did he know about a $15
Landing fee.. he did.. The W2 put me down as crew because that was the only way I could officially fly.. His boss, a CW5 got on him because of s call from AF A&F about you. Were you an official flight crew mbr? He asked who was calling .. she said who she was and her job title.. it didn’t sound important to him so he hung up..
he was expecting some Col. Or s GS11 . .. somebody with rank.. She had a Colonel call back and talked to the CW5.. He didn’t like how the CW2, just said Ob and hung up like he didn’t have time to talk to a lowly GS4 or 5... The Col told the CW5 to handle it or he’d call s’body at Eustis who would.. So to not have to explain a lot of stuff the CW2,paid your $15 landing fee to shut the GS4 or 5 up.. So I hunted the CW2, down and gave him the $15... He didn’t get huffy.. That GS caused the trouble.. and the $15 would come in handy for gas cause he didn’t want to break his $50.. After all that chasing down a $15
Landing fee she did to be paid to the FAA then paid to Hampton because I Caught a flight on a Military Aircraft and landed on the base . Was that $15 dollars going to help her? I suppose if she were taking flying lessons (if Hampton had s field ) I suppose she’d see the runway maintained or the grass cut .. Or the tower painted.. or employee paid a % tage.. I remember when I returned from Germany another time it reportedly cost the Air Force a huge landing fee and Hampton got the $ from those flights.. 50 pax each flight
X $15 If money were paid for weight.. why would Hampton get it?
They landed at Langley it be wear and tear on Langley’s runway.. seems like $$ would stay at Langley! I think the AF needs to look at that again....they’re getting hosed ! Hampton sends all her garbage to Langley’s big super
Furnace that fuels a powrer plant and “gives” the power back to Hampton in exchange on taxes the base would pay if it were a commercial industry. and some people had nerve to call us leeches!
