Great history! The opening of the PRC has had historic significance but the ancillary downgrading of Taiwan has been tragic. Taiwan should be given the full respect of international law as an independent nation.

Thanks for reminding us SP5 Mark Kuzinski of former POTUS Richard M. Nixon's historic visit to People’s Republic of China in 1972. He had the street cred as a staunch anti-communist.
It was great that he took the step to reestablish relationship with communist China even while the Vietnam war was going on because, POTUS Nixon understood the strategic picture.
Up to this point China nd Russia were much closer to each other and opposed to us. After that point, relationship improved with China [the good, the bad and the ugly.
Good - threat of nuclear engagement declined and grudgingly China began to increase Freedom.
Bad - economic espionage, devalued currency and other factors enabled the Chinese to flood us with cheaper and not always quality goods.
Ugly - local hegemony in the South China Sea, hacking efforts against our governmental and financial institutions, and other activities to undermine our nation.

I think the PRC's methods have been contrary to international laws and they are no good as a trading partner. It would not be wise to be antagonistic toward the world's 2nd largest economy but being cozy with them by allowing them to have most favored trade recognition is unnecessary.

one of His problems and One that came back to bite US in the Butt was the Lifting of sanctions and Most Favored Trading Status
and then returning the war trophy of Okinawa to the Japanese...
