Wow- that is a lot of ordance SP5 Mark Kuzinski and the cost was astronomical. So we did this for 8 years wondering if it would work? Long time to maintain a mission with little effect.

One of the assignments of a Marine battalion's TACP (tactical air control party) was to call in coordinates of suspected enemy positions for TPQ missions. Think H&I only with a loaded F-4 Phantom controlled by a radar operator in Dong Ha telling a pilot when to pickle his load of bombs from flight level 6000 feet. Some of the aviation officers assigned TDY to a grunt bn. saw the improbability of these missions. This was especially true when we were sitting in the middle of a jungle in pitch darkness and received a priority request for TPQ coordinates. I, as a lance corporal, was often given the job. I'd pick areas where we came across tiny bunkers and trench lines too small for an American to fit in. It seemed an enormous waste of taxpayer money to me, but I suppose it was unnerving to the North Vietnamese soldiers.
