Thanks for reminding us SP5 Mark Kuzinski that 42 years ago, the USA announced that 5,000 more troops would be sent to Vietnam. The USA had a marginal overt presence and more robust covert present in South Vietnam and neighboring areas at that time. When the "North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked U.S. destroyers off the coast of North Vietnam" in the Gulf of Tonkin that was considered a game changer.
