We used to catch people that used a label printer and labeled the back of their PKI card with their PIN.

In the early days of computing when I consulted, I would simply pickup a person's keyboard and turn it over to find their password. I found it there at least two-thirds of the time despite my warnings against using the habit. Other hiding places were almost as popular. Of course, that method required physical access to the computer. Today, computers and computer controlled systems are accessed remotely, however, it appears they are as simple to decipher as looking on the bottom of the keyboard. I use long, arcane passwords of randomly generated numbers, letters, and symbols. How do I remember them? I don't. I use a secure identity vault that is locked with an equally arcane password (the only one I have to remember) or accessed via fingerprint or eye scanner. Yes, it costs, but the cost of being hacked is even higher, much higher
