I certainly hope that we will indeed help our stalwart allies the Kurds PO1 Tony Holland. Since the northern no-fly zone was instituted flowing Desert Storm the Kurds have been our allies.
It is not surprising to me that the despotic leadership of Iran is doing its best to undermine any efforts to Kurdish independence within the borders of Iraq since it threatens the stability of Iran and Turkey which have Kurdish minorities.
I hope that we and our allies will help ensure a robust military buffer will be inserted between the Kurdish people and this exercise.
"Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency is reporting that the country’s armed forces plan to hold a joint military drill with the Iraqi army near Kurdish territory.
The Saturday report quotes Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, spokesman for Iran’s joint armed forces staff, as saying the maneuver will be held in the coming days in northwest Iran near the Iraqi Kurdistan border.
Jazayeri said the decision to have some Iraqi military units participate came during a meeting Saturday of the chiefs of Iranian armed forces.
Iran closed its borders and stopped flights to Iraqi Kurdistan airports following a Kurdish referendum of independence from Iraq on Monday."

It was a real mistake giving M1 Abrams tanks to the Iraqi Army because you know the now have some of them belonged to Hezbollah which is the militia of the Iranian army or the Shia version of Isis. I was stationed in kirkuk for almost a year in 2005. It is so sad that now the Kurds may have to fight back and defend themselves.

I would not trust the Iraqis with any American military equipment as far as I could throw the entire country. They will go with the direction that the wind blows. Today the Iraqis are for the US. Tomorrow they will be for whoever that they think that they can steal from.
