Thanks for sharing SP5 Mark Kuzinski an example of a littoral naval operation from 1964. While Oplan 34A was not successful in landing any South Vietnamese commandos on the islands of Hon Me and Hon Ngu in the Tonkin Gulf I expect the lessons learned were useful. For some reason the Dieppe Raid from 1942 came to mind.
While the US Navy used PT boats in WWII and Swift special torpedo in the Vietnam era, for over a decade the navy has been employing littoral naval vessels which are much more capable.
