I had an instructor at Security Forces Tech School who had just come back from Afghanistan. One of those guys wearing an unauthorized Army combat patch on his Air Force BDU's, question me about my Air Medal, and accuse me of wearing an unauthorized award in front of the entire class (137 students and NCOs). I had anticipated this might occur so I had a printed copy of my awards and decs from virtual MPF. So I promptly pulled it out and and showed him, which motivated his quick exit from our open ranks inspection, and a meeting with the Squadron Commander. Even though I was right, it frustrates me and nagged at me for days. I just don't understand why you would attack someone from your own ranks. And if you DO suspect, for shit sake, pull them said and ask.
Unfortunately there are many people that claim or embellish military service. Sorry that you got caught up in it though understand the cause is generally noble. Not sure why there's a lot of open slandering but there are also two sides to every story. DD-214s are a matter of public record and can square some of that stuff away pretty quickly.
Thank you for sharing. I fill we are going to see more and more of this as we move on with OIF/OEF vets. I have said this before these conflicts' have placed troops in jobs and task forces outside their MOS's and some VET do not like this and they challenge that when someone claims they are a combat Vet and not in a normal combat MOS. We have several women that received CARS and couple with V's on NAMS or NAVCOMS and of course PH. We operated outside the wire all the time and same with all these special joint task forces, Like PRT'S and Law and Order and several others that had to work outside the wire and some peoples man hoods get effected by this so they then tend to say you didn't do that or your MOS would not do that. The bottom line is this was COIN and not the old type front line wars of the past.
Sorry that happen.
