I had an instructor at Security Forces Tech School who had just come back from Afghanistan. One of those guys wearing an unauthorized Army combat patch on his Air Force BDU's, question me about my Air Medal, and accuse me of wearing an unauthorized award in front of the entire class (137 students and NCOs). I had anticipated this might occur so I had a printed copy of my awards and decs from virtual MPF. So I promptly pulled it out and and showed him, which motivated his quick exit from our open ranks inspection, and a meeting with the Squadron Commander. Even though I was right, it frustrates me and nagged at me for days. I just don't understand why you would attack someone from your own ranks. And if you DO suspect, for shit sake, pull them said and ask.

I went from the Navy to the Army and of course I carried over my ribbons. I went straight to E. Co. 1-82 in Ft Bragg. I swear the CSM had a radar for anything out of place. He quizzed me for a few minutes, welcomed me to the unit and walked off like nothing happened. The thing is, he wasn't disrespectful about it at all. There's a time and place for everything, and that goes for anyone regardless of rank.

For some reason NPRC cannot furnish me a DD-214 or DD-215 what I got was a Statement of Service AHRC FORM 3353_1Ein place of those documents. Mary at http://www.pownetwork.org/ was able to find a list of my duty Stations for me and I still owe her a big wet one... That said I always raise Red Flags re Stolen Valor as I was with the ASA and we generally are/were not allowed to about our jobs other than in general terms. That said trust me it was a mundane job very interesting and as far away from the tip of the spear as possible and still be in the Army. So if someone says that they had a TS job and are telling John Wayne stories it is usually BS unless the Name is Petrie or Thilbeault or Meyers....or the like.

My DD form 214 completely leave off my assignment to Korea. I was there for a full year from 1978 to 79. I know I was there, I had to be I have the Korean marriage license where I married my wife at the US embassy while there But I have yet to be able to get validation of that assignment or even a copy of the orders.

Unfortunately there are many people that claim or embellish military service. Sorry that you got caught up in it though understand the cause is generally noble. Not sure why there's a lot of open slandering but there are also two sides to every story. DD-214s are a matter of public record and can square some of that stuff away pretty quickly.

No, I did not suggest you did something to cause this but I'm not going into it any further.

There's a former soldier who has told one of my friends that he has earned foreign badges, deployments, etc so I looked this soldier up and he's never been OCONUS. Pisses me off when soldiers use do this because it can reflect poorly on the veteran community.

Thank you for sharing. I fill we are going to see more and more of this as we move on with OIF/OEF vets. I have said this before these conflicts' have placed troops in jobs and task forces outside their MOS's and some VET do not like this and they challenge that when someone claims they are a combat Vet and not in a normal combat MOS. We have several women that received CARS and couple with V's on NAMS or NAVCOMS and of course PH. We operated outside the wire all the time and same with all these special joint task forces, Like PRT'S and Law and Order and several others that had to work outside the wire and some peoples man hoods get effected by this so they then tend to say you didn't do that or your MOS would not do that. The bottom line is this was COIN and not the old type front line wars of the past.

Sorry that happen.

Thank you for adding to the narrative. I was targeted because they don't like my opinions, and I had the guts to stand up and speak the truth. The VA needs to be fixed. At the same time, I've seen plenty of gaming the system on the part of four week wonders down there, and it needs to stop. Veterans who genuinely need care are being neglected in favor of those who just want to suck up resources.
