I thought it was very appropriate for the incoming President of the USA Donald Trump to make a decision to cut costs for the airplane fleet that carries him on official journeys SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. Just because a new President comes along does not mean that the previous POTUS aircraft fleet needs to be replaced. Upgrades, refurbishment of existing aircraft makes much more sense that replacing the fleet.
Kudos to President-elect Donald Trump for this decision and many others for that mater :-)

Hopefully president like Donald Trump will also fix the way overpriced Carlson wagonlit travel all service members have to use. For the excuse that it's a modifiable and cancellable ticket comma they charge three times the price of what you and me can buy a ticket for. In the orders, it says that you will use Carlson wagonlit travel otherwise you will not be reimbursed. That should save the price of a 3- versions of the presidential plane with EMP each year until they change that required ticket mandated.

PO1 Chris V. - the potential will be lost government-contract jobs. If the prime and sub-contract firms take care of their folks they will work on other contracts, if not they will move on.
On the other had, the retrofitting and upgrading of the existing fleet probably result in other skilled-workers being hired.

I'm obviously not an Air Force guy (thank god), but why don't they start with a C-17, and modify it to Presidential requirements?
As a side note, the son (AF) of a very good friend of mine is assigned to Air Force One; and will be arriving on post early next year (2017).

C-17 is far too small and is not designed as a long range luxury transport but rathe a heavy lift truck of the sky, it is great at what it does but like the c-141 and C_5 ct creature comports were not exactly important design consideration.
In Army terms that would be like trying to use a Deuce and a Half to replace a luxury tour bus.

Thanks for the clarification. Your army terms made the point.
I suppose they could outfit it with a nice interior, add a jacuzzi and wet bar.
Then again, it wouldn't hurt to have those senior politicians, their staff, and the parade of reporters ride in a deuce and a half every now and then; bring them back to reality.
