Enemy air defense suppression is critical in the early operational stages SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
In WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and OIF we used Air Force and Navy/USMC aircraft to suppress ground-based anti-air capabilities as well as attacking their interceptor and fighter aircraft. Neutralizing air defense is critical to subsequent bombing campaigns and airborne, air mobile or airlift operations.
Recon by fire is a ground-based technique. Unfortunately the U.S. bombers raiding the munitions manufacturing facilities at Kang Chi 3-days earlier were not sufficiently prepared for anti-air capabilities protecting the target area approaches.
The casualty to achieved objective ratio of five U.S. F-105 fighter-bombers shot down to one missile launcher was destroyed and another was damaged is a costly and poor ratio.
