I am in the process of applying for OCS and I am trying to get some more information about the engineer branch. I know that Sapper/Ranger School is available, but I am wondering if there are any engineer specific schools out there. I am currently working towards a second bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, which is why I am wondering about more engineer specific schools/training.

You mentioned you were aware of it, but I'd still start with "Sapper School" - known more formerly as the Sapper Leaders Course and held right there at FLW, MO where you would go for the Engineer Officer Basic Course. Normally there are slots offered at EN BOLC and a competitive train-up program. Sapper School is modeled after Ranger School (but only 28 days) and is about advanced "light" engineering skills in a combat-oriented, patrolling environment. Great training for a new EN 2LT and Platoon Leader. Good Luck! Essayons!!

SSG(P) (Join to see) Congratulations and good luck. First, understand, since 2010 your branch out of OCS is based on the OML there, just like ROTC and USMA; it was not always that way. So if you want to choose your branch, be a physical stud, be a team player, and take everything seriously as it all matters. As for Engineer Officer schools, I could speculate, as there are many courses available at Fort Leonard Wood, and other places based on your 1st assignment. I would recommend, if you can get a Ranger School slot, do it, and Sapper too. I would also defer to my Engineer brothers COL John McClellan COL Jason Smallfield, PMP, CFM, CM as this is their lane.

SSG(P) (Join to see) there are all sorta of ASIs that you can apply for/go to school for (see below) or Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) training. Those are the major Engineer related schools. The rest is OJT or other schools in general.

S4-Sapper Leader
W1-Facilities Planner
W2-Geospatial Engineer Officer
W3-Professional Engineer
W4-Degreed Engineer
W5-Project Management Professional
W6-Project Engineer
W7-Environmental Officer
