Senate passes measure to extend commissary, exchange privileges to more veterans

Thank you for sharing my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell the news that the United States Senate approved a measure Wednesday that will allow all Purple Heart and Medal of Honor recipients, former prisoners of war and veterans with disabilities connected to their military service, as well as veteran caregivers to be eligible to shop at commissaries, "according to the legislation.
The measure was included in the $716 billion National Defense Authorization Act that the Senate approved by a vote of 87 to 10. The bill will now go to President Donald Trump for his signature."
I expect this is attest case and if successful in terms of efficiency, the Congress will allow more veterans to be eligible - first in two years, I would expect it to include honorably discharged veterans.

I don't see a problem with the people or requirements on this list, the problem is now this will open the door for everyone to say what about me, and not this generation but the other whiners, that don't stop and look at themselves before they start complaining. The problem is everyone needs to be the same, well guess what we are not. The thing is we need to stop, before this becomes everyone gets a trophy, and takes away from those that earned a privilege that was promised. Promises was if they sucked it up and kept on going and giving selflessly, to the end I.E. Referment, use to mean something, now what.
Sorry but this pisses me off, as we keep lowering the bar, why, where will it stop and at what price would we have paid. I have said this before, the system was set up to have differences, the duty and price paid for some one who does 20 and some one who does two or four years is a way different world for the most part period.

Well sadly, ya gotta do what ya gotta do to keep those enlistment numbers up when folk aren't enlisting/reenlisting. So pretty soon, everyone can shop at the BX/PX/NX. Then, they don't have to do 20 years to retire. Next commissary. And ya know what? Folk still aren't joining.

The bar is being lowered and by that many veterans will be happy. Is that a good thing? Probably not. It seems in every direction apathy and laziness is abounding.

This is a tewst case expansion PO3 Phyllis Maynard. If it is determined to be efficient. I would expect the authorization to expand to honorably discharged veterasn in two years.

I guess considering the other side of the coin, "all gave some-some gave all", there is the argument that all signed on and were obligated to confront the worse, if their number was called.
And I understand those who stayed for the retirement long haul or those who are 100% P/T Service Connected who lost something. But I will certainly be a good comrade and gracious to the new benefactors if this change. LTC Stephen F. the world around us is changing as we get older making the "old order" obsolete.

PO3 Donald Murphy you have said a mouth full. I hope I am not offensive to your beliefs in saying this, but two things from my belief system: 1. The showing forth of GOD in the midst of the active duty community as HE was in the most significant wars if our past is very felt by persons who have been restricted to include the honor of GOD first and country second - 2. The veteran benefit system has become very unkind towards those who have served and are facing limited benefits and are homeless.
So I can see new people not joining. I don't think I would trust anything promised as a benefit for my future, if I were one of those who would consider joining. Even me being old school, much of what I was promised as an enlistee has vaporized. Anfmd the country and politicians as a whole seem to have forgotten those still in harm's way and mortal discomfort. It is like getting tired if a long chess game when the players leave the board game for weeks or months. Well it has been years for our men and women
