Since this is a post from bbc.co.uk I would not put any credence in it Capt Dwayne Conyers. Of course the left-leaning folks are probably frothing at the mouth at this type of over-the-top headline :-)
It might have been more accurate to write close Mexican government offices and agencies to build the wall. :-)

1. Iran was a prominent issue in 1981. North Korea was not as big an issue but it was ruled by despots back then.
2. Ronald Reagan successfully stood up against communism since the days of Joseph McCarthy and he was ridiculed by the press as a buffoon. Ronald Reagan ran as a somebody with no Washington, D.C. experience. The press roared at Reagan and Reagan ignored the polls and did what he believed was right from a conservative perspective,
3. Jimmy Carter was a former Naval officer who was the first born-again Christian to be elected President and he was ridiculed for it.
4. Barrack Obama was the darling of the press since he was nominated.
5. Jimmy Carter accomplished more in his 4 years than Barrack Obama did in his eight for world peace - Camp David agreement was amazing - yet the Iranian revolution and the hostage crisis is what some people remember him for.
6. Donald Trump has been immensely successful in the national and international scene and he is a great judge of character who like Reagan speaks what coms to mind, The press roars at Trump and he ignored the polls and does what he believes is right from a conservative perspective.
7. Ronald Reagan took steps to rebuild the military personnel, capabilities and self-image after the overzealous post-Vietnam drawdown in the Ford/Carter years. I expect Donald Trump will rebuild the military personnel, capabilities and self-image after sequestration and social experimentation focus of the Obama years.
8. Presidents do not deserve credit or blame fro everything which happens in their administration. Presidents do deserve credit or blame for their initiatives and emphasis which plays out in policy initiatives and the use of the Bully Pulpit.
9. Obama was lauded and blamed for things he did not have direct influence on.
10. The President is the toughest and most demanding job on the face of the planet.
11. I have prayed for very President and First Lady since George H.W. Bush. I prayed fro President Barrack and Michelle Obama and lost my career because of the implementation of the ACA and was evicted from our home as a result. Those actions were tangential to the policy advocated by President Obama and not his fault. Circumstances do not hinder my prayers for those in authority.
12. It will be interesting to see how the national and international situations will change by the summer of 2019.

President Trump hasn't yet learned how to use the "Bully Pulpit". Threats don't scare opposition members of Congress. The only threat they react to are those to their incumbency. Democrats are vulnerable. They are leaderless. They have no message. In fact, threatening to shut down government gives them one because, believe it or not, some people care. A significant number of Democratic Senate seats, far more than GOP ones, are up for grabs next year. And the DNC war chest is bare. If they don't cooperate on funding the wall, it will be the election issue next year that will put the final nail in their Congressional coffin.
