SPC Jeff Daley, PhD Good article about a real concern. I would have to say we need to consider the problem of record keeping under conditions of being attacked when it is a continual emergency, when there is a lack of supplies, and when medical personnel, aid workers, and reporters are also being killed and wounded. Record keeping while people are triaged under those conditions where nearly everything is an emergency is likely to be absent and/or inaccurate. There is also the problem of people being unidentifiable, and not known by the folks who are bringing in the wounded, and those trying to identify and count the bodies they are wrapping and lining up in neat, orderly rows.
We also have people primarily self reporting about missing and known dead family, friends, and neighbors, plus huge numbers of unrecognizable bodies and strewn body part.
The fact is that we also know prevarication happened at the start, and there were "friendly fire" deaths according to people who were present on October 7, all of which eventually came to light.
It is pot and kettle - with possible intentional exaggeration added in some cases, to the fog of war.
As long as there is no organized consolidated record keeping system all in one place in Gaza while it is under attack, there could be intentional under/over estimated reporting, along with well calculated honest as possible estimates in the absence of records that have been destroyed in attacks, or did not ever exist.
After the killing stops the matter of accurate tallying will take time, also. All there really is until then are estimates, and probably a wide range of estimates.

I have personally seen the Israelis in action. No one tries harder than they to minimize collateral damage.
I mean let's get real ... who's Army and Air Force drops leaflets warning non-combatants to evacuate prior to an attack? It certainly makes it harder to execute a mission effectively and get back out without harm. We sure as hell don't do that, the Israeli Defense Forces do so regularly.
NOTE:

"No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17

"For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues." Psalms of David 109:2

"With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered." Proverbs 11:9

"A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish." Proverbs 19:9
