OR, you could look at someone's birth certificate. I know that I had to provide one for my kids' to enrolled in a new school after EVERY PCS move.

My birth certificate was "updated" when I was adopted after my dad remarried. My natural mother who died of a heart attack was removed like she never existed and my adoptive mom put as the mother just like she had given birth to me. It's much less of a set in stone document than you'd think.
