Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the May 9th Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "A Martian Eclipse: Phobos Crosses the Sun." Phobos is one of the two moons (Deimos is the other) that orbit the Planet Mars. They are named for the two horses (Fear and Panic) that drew the chariot of Ares, the Greek God of War. This 49-second video clip is an April 2022 lunar eclipse from the surface of Mars as viewed by the Perseverance rover. The video is in real time, as Phobos is much closer to Mars than our own Moon is to Earth, and is also much smaller.
