On April 1, 2025, the Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC introduced the world's most advanced microchip: the 2 nanometre (2nm) chip. Mass production is expected for the second half of the year, and TSMC promises it will represent a major step forward in performance and efficiency — potentially reshaping the technological landscape.
Microchips are the foundation of modern technology, found in nearly all electronic devices, from electric toothbrushes and smartphones to laptops and household appliances. They are made by layering and etching materials like silicon to create microscopic circuits containing billions of transistors.
These transistors are effectively tiny switches, managing the flow of electricity and allowing computers to work. In general, the more transistors a chip contains, the faster and more powerful it becomes.

Lt Col Charlie Brown Electronics has come a long way since Bell Laboratories created the first transistor in 1946. I remember the race to create the first integrated circuit (IC) to hold one megabyte of memory. By today's standards that is primitive technology but at the time it was cutting edge.

My first computer was a Gateway, Win95, 100k speed, 4mg memory, 12k dial-up modem that took forever, a monitor that looked like a big TV, at a cost saving of $2000, delivered to your address.
BUT, the silver linning was, I broke it so much, usully abuser caused, learned how to fix it so good, the learning of that gave me the experence to build, repair, usage of software, that I made more money back than the $2000 it cost me.
The only same thing from using that Gateway and now, with my highend system is, the same user/abuser.
By the way, Win95 had 25 floppies for the OS install, and alot of time waiting for each floopy to load.
Later working at the US Navy Ship Repair Facility, my Gateway was high tect compaired to the navy system at the time. That was a 286 with a 5" floopy disk, no mouse, F-key operations, and it took 20 miniutes to warm up.

No wonder, China wants to take over Taiwan! We can't let that happen IMHO!

Silicon Shield. lol. However many phones and computers are made (and/or assembled) in China which doesn't match the political rhetoric about levels of mistrust.

And If You Listen Carefully To Many Of The TV Ads,
You'll Hear: "And Assembled Right Here In The United States
With American Union Labor". Exactly "Assembled Here" ~
With All Production Parts from Elsewhere.
