I have had a Commander that took our company and ran our morale into the dirt so that he or she could get what he or she wanted to get accomplished in order to achieve the evaluation report he or she wanted. Then when it was all said and done and that commander got what he or she wanted their was no explanation nor gratitude for what the Commander put us threw.

I've had one CO who was like that. Those kind are only out for themselves, and how many medals and citations can get, SPC (Join to see).

I had a commander that at any sensible level should have been fired long ago. He was overly concerned with his own image vs the Unit's and honestly I dont think he ever saw the two as being symbiotic.

Our unit went from one of the best communication units in Europe to the laughing stock of not only the base, but our Wing under his 2 year command. He never pushed anyone to be better instead maligned his SNCO corps, and constantly disregarded ideas that werent his.

I walked in on a meeting where he and his LTs were laughing off an Air Force level investigation that was ongoing regarding our unit, and a MASSIVE mistake he made directly. To me this was a slap in the face because we (the technicians) warned him it was a terrible idea to execute his plan and the results, if it failed would be disastrous... as predicted it failed, and shortly after the investigation began. Why did he and his cronies laugh it off? because the CC's golf buddy was a BG at the Pentagon, and the investigation went no where, as it was designed. I say that because he intentionally left off individuals, like myself, that were there for every meeting, and warned him daily about the risks.

I could go on and on about his 'me first' attitude and how it destroyed the morale and ultimately the reputation of the unit, but honestly the details are so extreme that most wouldn't believe me. Our unit deserved better, the Lts in our unit needed better, Our SNCOs needed to be given the authority to lead, and none of that ever came to be. So if you're ever stationed in the AFDW area and the Air Force manages your comm network, understand that while the technicians are hard at work getting your services back online, that their commander is not overly concerned with you or your units needs.

Thanks for sharing TSgt (Join to see). Now I understand better what a toxic commander is.

Way back in the dark ages, when I was an E2 on a ship...I was assigned to burn classified info. Since it was one of my first times, I had a shipmate to help. We were throwing them in the furnace when a bag dropped and spilled. He must of been bored, he started reading some of the stuff. He called to me to look at something. It was two fitrep's for the same officer, balled up. So...we looked at them. The first fitrep made this officer (CWO) look like the biggest jackass in the Navy and recommended him for discharge. The second fitrep had him walking on water...we looked at each other and decide we needed to know more. So, we emptied the bag on the deck and looked for more stuff. Now, our CO was an asshole; he would stick his penis in anything warm and wet, including the enlisted men's wives/girlfriends. We found a type written letter (copy) from the W/O to the CO and it wasn't pretty. The W/O was part owner of a private detective agency...in his letter he told the CO he was as asshole, along with some other choice words. He then, in the last paragraph, said that if the CO wanted to smear him, he'd mail some photos and logs to the CO's wife and to PHIBRON EIGHT. So...we knew the whole story. I didn't much like that W/O, but I had a lot more respect for him after shafting our shithole of a CO.

PFC (Join to see) No, it was over thirty years ago and Fitreps aren't normally classified.
