I am just curious what my fellow RPers think on this matter...

FYI - Please keep this one professional as it could become a heated discussion... Respect your fellow RP Brothers and Sisters points of view!!!

Why is it just a couple of years ago such hatred views are unacceptable for ones historical beliefs, but are now totally acceptable in Congress as the new golden rule?

Has society leaned so far one way or the other that ones belief is now adjudicated by their status in this country? As crazy is it may seem, what if previously, David Duke slapped a KKK flag outside his office years ago, or today’s southern states placed their Confederate Flags outside theirs? Where does the line get drawn for equality of ones personal belief and their first amendment rights? Shouldn’t ALL flags be permitted or are we to now lay down the laws as to morally (by today’s standards) of what is acceptable to not?

Further - Would it now be okay for a unit Commander to have in his office, seems okay for a Congressional Staffer?

Personally, I think there should be only two flags permitted; the US Flag and their home states representative flag - however, if we are to open up to other flags, where does the line get drawn, both morally, ethically, and by whose guidance shall they adhere?

Mikel, can you please push this one out...? Please and thank you kind Sir!

Good question. We have white shamed the average Caucasian guy into the if you do not agree with every new PC issue, you are a racist, homophobe, insensitive, intolerant, sadistic, etc etc. I honestly try to ignore the din and move on. As far as the rest, I am all over continuing the expansion of the melting pot. I will further let Teddy Roosevelt speak on this:

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Maj Marty Hogan I agree, but also recall many friends that I grew up with. Many kids in my home town were from places like Czechoslovakia or Poland. On the surface they had totally assimilated to the American way of life, but when you went to their homes to play their entire family would be speaking their native language and if you ever got invited over for dinner it would always be ethnic food. I see nothing wrong with this as long as people can separate their public and private lives. Problem these days is that too many immigrant families refuse to do that.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I was from an Irish and German neighborhood, sprinkled with Jewish and Native American. The Germans built the Catholic Church I grew up in in the late 1800s. At the time, there was a PC push for publishing things in German etc. The community said no- they spoke German in their homes, but insisted their children become Americans. They did not forget their heritage, but embraced being an American. They protested that things should not be in both languages. I have heard similar stories from my travels- the biggest being the Italian communities on the East coast. I have zero issue with that. I do however find fault with someone flying their home country flag above the US flag. My ex was Polish and her neighborhood in Pennsylvania was known as Huenke Alley. Same roll- they spoke Polish in the house- made the kids learn English and forbid them to speak Polish outside.

Maj Marty Hogan I'm with you, and ya, I grew up around those Italian communities in the Northeast and saw the same.

Yours is a fair question, one that I can only respond to by telling a story that many of us of a certain age have shared. Once upon a time, whenever American Nazis paraded, there were cries to halt them. However, calmer heads prevailed and we were reminded of the constitutional rights of freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. Furthermore, we assured ourselves that they represented very little threat inasmuch as their numbers were so small. Finally, many of us agreed that it was better to know who the kooks were and where they lurked, rather than driving them underground. Thus, I am tempted to dismiss your concerns with the same arguments. However, these are far different times, aren't they? Yes, the constitutional rights still protect them, but ours are diminished by political correctness that seem focused on stifling the rights of saner heads. Yes, it is still better to know who the kooks are and where they lurk, but there are so many more of them these days. Finally, instead of driving them underground, the ground swell of support for the kooks emboldens them to more aggressive attacks including physical violence (witness the activities of ANTIFA). No, I'm not even remotely tempted to call for a suppression of rights. I simply caution the sane to be aware and fight back against the propaganda that we once treated dismissively. Speak out. Let others know that they are not alone in being concerned and standing together against the barbarians who are now inside the wire (even in the halls of Congress). Take elections seriously. Only the motivated vote. It's time for us to become more motivated.

Statistically, Jack, most violence and terrorism in the US is caused by right wing groups; the more violent among them attract the greater number of kooks. Ted Kaczynski could have found a really large kindred community of lunatics across the border between Montana and northern Idaho, but today he could probably find one in Sumerville, MA as well. So, Antifa is far less of a problem than the fools running around with hacked cross flags and tiki torches. That said, the idea of having violent dueling tribes of left versus right doesn't work out well for the society as a whole. Sounds like Berlin in 1932. That went well.
But, reasonable people who care on all sides of the equation need to follow you advice -- pay attention, demand evidence and condemn "alternative facts," as falsehoods. Talking points should be grounds for yanking the damn politician, spokesman or pundit off the stage and casting them off into the wilderness. Mexican radio, maybe?
By nature, I'm not an optimist; but I take some comfort in the Dr King's idea that the arc of history, though long, tends toward justice.

Well said Jack. For whatever reason(s) the 'kooks have become more emboldened of late and as you say, it's time to speak out.

I think that are youth are being brain washed by the media and these groups that think burning the flag or that keep bringing up everything as a race issue, or creed, or religion is the problem. I believe that our media is getting so far out of hand that will have an adverse affect on our children and thier children and so on and so forth. I believe in the Flag, I support the Constitution, I'll fight for my Country, I believe that everyone should be able to practice their religion (in peace and professionally), and that is how I was brought by my parents and my parents were brought up that way as well. How are kids being brought up today with social media, being left at home because both parents have to work or left in daycare, etc... Anyway that's my thoughts - we need to do something as a society about our social media, news, and the government controlled by our Congress, not the Executive Branch, or Justice, just the Congress (it's out of control) and the people need to get it back - my two cents for what's it worth. Great question SGT Jim Ramge, MBA Passing it on to the Tiop Influencers for more coverage and feedback.

Thank you for your perspective - I was raised similarly and am raising all 4 of mine the same. Everyone is different, and to get respect, you must first give! You must respect the differences in your peers and agree to disagree. Great piece - thanks Mikel!
