I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

If you remember the blessed anonymity of not having name tapes on your Marine cammies, and the joy of a really well-polished boot.

You are old school if:
You served on a CVA
You wore seafarer dungarees
Your squadron flew F11,F9,F8 or A4 aircraft
You thought the Chief was the most powerful man on earth

It's a really stupid saying. And used out of context. I had an E-5 who was about a year or so older than me always talking about how he's "Old school" (In terms of his being in the Army and an NCO) Which mostly went hand-in-hand with him getting worked up over stupid stuff and threatening to "Take me behind the tree line." Just general meathead stuff.

Hey Chad, sorry to hear that. Several people have posted similar accounts. I guess people use it in different contexts and unfortunately when used, like you stated, it leaves a bad impression. I have always enjoyed the term, but then... I have not had your experience with it.

Shame Chad you put all the apples in the same basket as one rotten one, regardless what time frame they speak of , it's old school to them. each and every person has his thoughts of old school. the person that went to boot camp one month before you may have done the same thing you did but was taught to do it a different way. he is old school. each time technology advances the old technology is old school.. to me old school is as I posted before, for example . my weapon was an M 1 , if you put a M 14 or M 16 in front of me I wouldn't know which end the bullet comes out of, that is old school by technology. if you are a true warrior what you feel inside will be the same now as it was 100 years ago. so in that sense there are no old school, pride never changes.

I'm old school, therefore when you get seasick you don't get to go to your rack. You have to continue to work. Feel like throwing up? Throw up over the side and then back to work.

How about this oldie but goodie? "Go down to the Cash Cage and get your TDY funds" And you went down and they counted out the money to you, all of it.

Black, spit-shined boots. Separate stateside and jungle fatigues, (not BDU's), all green. Armoring up an M151A1 MUTT, (aka a Jeep), meant putting sandbags on the floorboards. Cold weather and travel Class A uni was green, Warm weather, Khakis, open collar, no tie, short sleeves. M14, later m-16 rifle, 1911 45 pistol, iron sights on both. There's more, but those came to mind just now.

Running our Pt in our fatigues(grounding the shirt and hat) and our boots... Jump school was awesome in 80, pt in fatigues and boots, running five miles everyday in spit shinned boots and getting introduce to the "BREAK AREA", rocks and doing push ups there, destroying the spit shin
