Sometimes we need appropriate doctrine to prepare for the next war. For example, the US believed our strategic bombers in WWII did not need fighter escorts, and we lost thousands of them due to this ineffective doctrine. This aspect makes me think about the Marine Commandant's vision of the Marine Corps eschewing amphibious landings. This doctrine is flawed. Which branch will conduct amphibious landings if necessary?

There is a concept called Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA). It is a key technology, munitions, weapons platforms that gives one side an advantage. The P-51 was an RMA as it escorted the strategic bombers to the target and back. In the process the P-51s shot down many German fighters attacking the bombers. This was the beginning of the end for the Luftwaffe. The Mustangs were key in the functions of escorting bombers, attaining air superiority, and air supremacy.

Stingers, Javelin missiles, and drones are RMAs. They are not new technology. However, what is new is the sheer numbers being used by the Ukrainians. Those are precision weapons or platforms which can be fired from a distance, thereby surprising Russian forces and protecting Ukrainians forces from being engaged by the Russians. Sometimes the challenge is predicting the future before it comes. I have concerns of long-range hypersonic missiles against our navy. Hypersonic missiles are defined as Mach 5+. A ship has 10 seconds to react to a hypersonic missile traveling at Mach 5. That window of time is small. Oh I want to mention the M1 tank rounds go Mach 5 which is one mile per second.
