One thing that was done My late Father in law Salvatore LaMacchia was involved with was working on the large guns taken off the sunken USS Arizona which were placed on Army shore batteries for the defense of the Island of Oahu. These massive guns could send a shell a good 25 miles or more out to sea from the new concrete gun emplacements. From 1943 to 1945 the gun emplacement's were constructed but halted with the Japanese surrender. They were only actually fired that one time after the surrender in salute. Later during WWII after work on the Arizona guns as a SSgt in the US Army He then made the beachhead landing vis landing craft on Guam, Okinawa and one other Japanese held island.
