One thing that I saw that apparently was not learned (by many members of our own country, I'm sorry to say) is respect for one's country. I saw many U.S. Olympians on the podium NOT placing their right hands over their hearts as the U.S. National Anthem was being played. I found it most disingenuous and disheartening.
I don't really think it should be a first amendment issue. To me, the Olympic podium should not be an athlete's bully pulpit if that's their intent, and if they don't respect our country, then don't represent our country. Further, I don't accept ignorance or supposed lack of ill intent. Everyone knows what they're supposed to do when the National Anthem of the United States is being played. 36 U.S. Code § 301 LTC Stephen F. SGT Robert George COL Mikel J. Burroughs SGT David A. Thanks for sharing SP5 Mark Kuzinski. It actually is every two years that the Olympics are held because the winter Olympics are held two years before [or after] the summer Olympics are held. Yes the summer Olympics are four years apart and so are the winter Olympics.
I think the points you raised apply generally to both summer and winter Olympics as well as to life in general.
1. Humility: [amen]
2. Perseverance:
3. Never Too Old: [more apt to summer than winter]
4. Passionate Determination:
5. The Greatest of All Time: [in some cases yes, in many cases greatest of the season or age may be a better way to phrase it]
6. New Champion Confidence:
7. Finding Your Way Again: [always useful skill. recovering from injuries and past failures is the mark of a champion in all walks of life]
8. Finally – Security: [situational awareness is a great habit all the time and especially when traveling abroad.]
