Thanks PO1 Tony Holland for letting us know. To be honest since one sea collision was in Japan and another in Singapore I think that CINCPAC should expand the readiness questions to CINCPAC and explore why destroyers are patrolling major shipping lanes without sufficient collision protection warning systems.

LTC Stephen F. - at present, the only way I can think of altering the controls of another ship involve the use of a Rapid Fire 5" or a torpedo, both of which are options. I do think our Congressmen and political leaders would be second guessing any CO who chose this option, don't you?
Thinking out of the box, possibly a software grab by use of the Aegis Stsyem one day, but not now as far as I know. That kind of fix would be great. But once again - Politicians would be up in arms as we took over a foreign flagged ship. Can you say Privateer?

CMDCM Gene Treants - I am limited because I signed debriefing documents a few times. Think along the lines of Stuxnet-like capability to remotely access control systems. I am not suggesting destroying the systems but simply exercising some control to [prevent accidents - this capability would warn the commercial or enemy vessel [potentially] that they have lost full control.
I was thinking along the lines of Outer Limits from the 1960s :-)

PO1 Tony Holland CO, XO, Commodore of DESRON 15, 7th FLEET and PACOM, will probably all be relieved. CNO - I don't know, but possible.

Yeah, one has to wonder. But I've heard complaints from folks in Norfolk that echo the conditions that have created these things in C7F. We will have to see what the latest investigations reveal.
My feeling is that a lot of heads will roll, from VADM Rowden down, if not CNO as well...
