"Last summer, newly surfaced Army documents alleged that Golsteyn told the CIA during a polygraph test that he killed an unarmed Afghan bombmaker in his custody and later conspired with others to destroy the body". If he indeed said this, he is getting what he deserves. He committed a crime, and has to pay the piper. To say otherwise would contradict what the MAJ himself said, and be fighting an uphill battle. It would also send a signal loud and clear to others who want to commit acts like this; do the deed, and let your congressman deal with it for you.

Completely agree, If he did what he is accused of, it is a war crime. If we don't prosecute we will end up with a military that is much less than a professional fighting force.

Unethical versus immoral. SOF units frequently do engage in what could be called unethical behavior in order to achieve a a righteous cause. That is why they spend so much time testing the moral character of an individual.

Unethical behavior can be excused in certain circumstances. Immoral behavior though is something that must never be excused or accepted.

SFC (Join to see) - Thanks for the insight. I actually had to look up the differences between the two. That is what makes this site good. Looking at this now, IF what he said he did is true, he'll be loosing a lot more soon. Killing in war is a necessary evil. You don't and shouldn't like it, but recognize you might have to. Murder in any sense is not.

SPC Kevin Ford - That really isn't an argument considering the state of our officer corps.

Thanks for letting us know SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL that the US Army has reopened its investigation into US Army MAJ Matthew Golsteyn who has been accused "of killing an unarmed suspected bombmaker in Afghanistan".
The fact that the Army board of inquiry cleared MAJ Matthew Golsteyn of a law of armed conflict violation indicates that this was not a premeditated murder. I suspect that the bombmaker may well have died as a result of interrogation.
I am skeptical of the "newly surfaced Army documents alleged that Golsteyn told the CIA during a polygraph test that he killed an unarmed Afghan bombmaker in his custody and later conspired with others to destroy the body."
The fact that Army board of inquiry later recommended a general discharge for Golsteyn and allowed him to retain most of his retirement benefits under a recommended general discharge under honorable conditions.
Since the board found MAJ Golsteyn's "conduct was unbecoming an officer;" but, did not prosecute him I expect that what actually happened is too highly classified to be discussed.
At this point I have to concur with Representative Duncan Hunter's assessment of the situation. Hopefully the releasable truth will come out and MAJ Matthew Golsteyn will be exonerated.

This has gone past a search for evidence and an attempt at justice and moved right on to Witch Hunt and making an example. I swear its as if they want the Military to operate as the Local police in America. You cant shoot unless your being shot at and then you need to be non lethal and kid glove everyone. Even if its righteous the whole nation is going to second guess you for the next year.

He was a bomb maker in a war zone working for the other side. He may not have had a gun but his mind was the weapon.
