Thanks for sharing uplifting news SP5 Mark Kuzinski. It is great when materiel developed for military purposes can be used for other situations.
Over the past couple centuries we have had periods of war and long periods of relative peace for our military forces. However the floods in this nation seem to happen every year especially along the Mississippi River and its major tributaries. I am thankful that the annual flooding in this nation does not lead to massive loss of life.
Here we talk about $billions in property damage while in Bangladesh it is massive losses of life .
I hope that low cost barrier material will be available for all areas which have significant risk for flooding.

LTC Stephen F., actually you have it backwards in this case. The original barrier was designed for use on beaches and marshes for erosion and flood control, then it was used by the military, in this case it is what is called a COSS (commercial off-the-shelf solution).
And to paraphrase SFC George Smith - Civilian technology coming to the aid of the military.

SSG Robert Webster - thanks. I went back and reread SP5 Mark Kuzinski post and saw that "The barriers were invented by British entrepreneur James Heselden, a former coal miner who used them to stop erosion on his property. After his invention received media attention, the United Kingdom's military realized the barriers could be used to replace sandbags that protected soldiers from blasts in Bosnia, said Aaron Ackley, Hesco's director of emergency response."

This was the original type of reason that these were invented - as barriers to prevent coastal erosion during storm periods.

Although I know nothing of the coastal layout of the mouth of the Mississippi I like your idea or build some large locks that open and close to prevent flooding situations during large storms !!!
