-Thanks for reminding us SP5 Mark Kuzinski that on June 30, 1970 the U.S. Senate voted 58 to 37 in favor of adopting the Cooper-Church amendment to limit presidential power of President Richard M. Nixon in Cambodia.
Pol Pot must have been thrilled by this vote. While he was in the midst of doing his utmost to fill the Killing Fields of Cambodia 5 years later or so, those Senators were probably patting themselves of the back. they couldn't care less about Cambodia, they were focusing on the ouster of Richard M. Nixon.
Coincidentally, our server at lunch today was Cambodia. She seemed surprised when I mentioned Khmer and later I mentioned she was too young to have experienced Pol Pot.

Ppl Pot was one of the most brutal regimes in history. I'm glad this amendment was eventually defeated. The President must retain authority in certain ares.
