I’ve actually been to the birthplace of Gene Autry, the “Singing Cowboy”, CW5 Jack Cardwell. Tioga is a little hole in the wall town in NE Texas, with a population of 803 as of the 2010 census. He was born there on September 29, 1907.
We drove through there in the late eighties, and the town was barely existent then. It’s easy to see why Gene left town!
