Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on March 13, 1836 Texan General Sam Houston insisted on ensuring the Texas rebels learned proper field maneuvers. Houston wisely continued to organize, train, and equip his troops so they would be prepared to meet Santa Anna’s army. Finally, after nearly a month of falling back, Houston ordered his men to turn around and head south to meet Santa Anna’s forces.

It is important that an army be trained and disciplined before going into battle against well-trained opposing army. Morale and esprit are certainly important but they should be coupled with a well trained, well equipped army of sharpshooters [19th century].
