Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on February 2, 1991 the 24 Hours of Daytona endurance auto race began. The grueling race ended the following day with driver Hurley Haywood collecting his fifth win, the most victories of any driver in the event’s history.
I tried to find a shorter video however they don't seem to exist :-)

Auto racing, while not uniquely American, has its roots deeply embedded in the hearts of its people who have done more to enhance and promote the sport than all other nations combined.
I have enjoyed both watching and competing since I was 12 years old with Daytona and LeMans my favorite races as I grew up. I quit watching NASCAR when they blatantly discriminated against the HEMI powered cars by ordering them detuned, and again in 1971 when winged cars were banned altogether after taking the majority of the top 10 spots in the '69 and '70 contests. I have not watched them since but spent my time building and racing street brawlers to compete in the simplest of contests, 1/4 mile drag racing.
Racing is something that gets into your blood leaving an itch that forever needs to be scratched.
Thanks for posting this article Joy - a great way for an old gear head to start his day!
