When I first read the discussion title I was thinking of the account of Jacob's dream recorded in the Book of Genesis about angels traveling up and down a ladder between heaven and earth.
Later he wrestled with God in the flesh and his hip was knocked out of socket as he was renamed by God from Jacob to Israel.
