I have visited the Netherlands often, since I was stationed in Germany in the late 70’s. On one of my early trips, I commented to a local how well we were treated on our visit. The response was, to a person, they credit their liberation and transition out of German hands after WWII almost solely to the US. That we could have sat at home and let the Germans have Europe but didn’t. Then, when we kicked the Germans out, we went on our way letting them have their country back (but providing much needed assistance in various forms). Bottom line; they have an undying gratitude towards the US and will never forget.
