At the beginning of the war the airstrikes were more tactical reprisals and beyond that did no real damage. Even as bombing ramped up in later years it was still only 'half-hearted' being restrained even at that time by PC. The greatest advantage the NVA had was our reticence to conduct all-out war concentrated on 'limited objectives'.

Capt Tom Brown, gradual escalation only gave the North a chance to adjust to the new reality bit by bit. Had we started with the same ferocity we eventually came to the results would have been very different.

I remember from long ago my high school had a drill and ceremony team(1960) taught by a retired Marine Major I even remember his name,McClusty,his favorite saying was "boots on the ground win wars gentlemen" never forgot that.
