Thanks for drawing attention to what the previously free people of South Vietnam referred to as the “Day of Shame” SP5 Mark Kuzinski. After the Viet Minh defeated the French at Dien Bien Phu, the United Nations stepped in and partitioned Vietnam with Ho Chi Minh as the leader of North Vietnam. North Vietnam worked overtly and covertly to taking control of the south.
South Vietnamese Premier Nguyen Khanh was wise to call for expansion of the war against North Vietnam and to take the war to the north.
As befitting the superiority complex of the LBJ administration, the US ambassador and other officials declined to comment because they thought South Vietnam needed US permission to fight their war the way they thought it should be fought.
