Good morning Col Burroughs and Posse. It's been a crazy time and I am taking today to relax and restore. There are both heat and air quality warnings up so I will be inside with the cats (they're happy)
We are planning some more adventures. In spite of all the restrictions, we've done our best to get out and about and enjoy nature, especially the water whenever we can. There is something about being near or in the water that definitely helps soothe a troubled spirit. We had a visit to the new National Park in West Virginia and it was awesome. The New River is actually the oldest river in North America and well worth the visit as it meanders through the mountains.
What images or thoughts does the ocean (or other water) bring for you?

I expect you recognize that the LORD is in complete control of every aspect of our lives. Life may well seem to ebb and flow like the ocean with periods of calm and turmoil. HE builds patience in us through trials and testing as well as self-control. As mature believers, we understand that oftentimes the trials and testing seasons we face are for the benefit of others as well as ourselves. When we face unexpected challenges, it is wise to seek the LORD’s guidance. 'Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.’ [James 1:12 ESV] my sister-in-Christ Lt Col Charlie Brown.
I pray for sufficient self-control, patience, and stamina for each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters to persevere through the challenges we will face through the summer and autumn for each one of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads or listens to this prayer. I am thankful that YOU are strengthening the character and fortitude of each of us as YOU prepare us. ‘For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.’ [2 Peter 1:5-9 ESV]
In this late summer month of August 2021, POTUS Joe Biden unilaterally decided to adhere to the Taliban deadline of August 31, against the advice of UK, Canada, Germany and other national leaders. Today eleven US marines and one navy corpsman were killed in Kabul by a suicide bomber along with many Afghanis. Yesterday he made a statement displaying his aloofness, pride and hubris “I know of no conflict, as a student of history, no conflict when a war was ending one side was able to guarantee that everyone who wanted to be extracted from that country was able to get out, Biden said.” Hopefully he will show some fortitude and ensure that the USA and our allies are able to extract each citizen of our respective nations and each Afghani who helped our forces along with their extended family members before we exit the nation. YOUR patience is beyond our imagination ‘What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles. [Romans 9:22-24 ESV]
I lift the family members and friends of the US service members killed in Kabul on August 26. 2021 [USA time] as well as those Afghani’s and others killed or injured by the suicide murderer. I pray that YOU comfort each family members and friend and allow them to grieve to completion. 'As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.’ [2 Corinthians 7:9-10 ESV]
I lift the mentally ill, the emotionally distraught, the manic, the severely depressed, those suffering from PTSD and TBI as well as each who loves them, cares for and treats them to YOU. I pray for a peaceful and hopeful nature for each of the suicidal and homicidal tonight individuals tonight. Give them peace LORD and lead them away from this chosen path. ‘Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.’ [Psalm 51:10-12 ESV]
I lift those going through unexpected challenges to YOU LORD. I thank YOU for preparing each of us as YOU use testing to burn off the dross from our character and firm us up. I hope that each of us are thankful for all YOU do for us including the good and the bad. YOU shape our character through challenges and trials. Enable us to learn quickly the lessons we need to learn for ourselves. Empower us to share what we have learned to bless other individuals 'And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. [Romans 8:28-29 ESV]
I pray that you and I heed the admonition of the LORD about responsibilities associated with self-control.
a. ‘and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him [Colossians 1:20-22 ESV]
b. ‘God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-control. [2 Timothy 1:7 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members sleep well Thursday night and will awake refreshed and healthy on Friday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

Today’s Message is: “Ocean Day!” Why Not?
