Bill O'Rielly wrote a pretty interesting book "Killing Patton" that covered a lot of the theories about his death. I, for one, think it was what it was, an accident. He had been relieved and sent home to retire before his death, and posed no threat to either the Allied powers or even the paranoid Soviets.

As WWII was being fought to the bitter end, George Patton pushed to get basic services going again in Germany while Douglas MacArthur pushed for services in Japan and the Philippines which had been ravaged by the war.
That being said George Marshall was the mastermind behind the recovery and restoration of relations with our former enemies in Europe LTC (Join to see)

Keeping the Nazis on the payroll was smart, even though politically incorrect. Too bad we didn't do the same in Iraq. Worst decision of the century. The hated Nazi nuclear physicists and chemical engineers got free passes and green cards. But I like what SFC George Smith said. I've always thought that his death was a little too perfectly timed.

I have thought it over and read some of the theories on his death. IMHO he had already been relieved and put to pasture. While someone of his rank and title might have been a danger in some ancient societies or third world countries Patton had no political pull in the US. The US Army was not like the Roman legions of old where the soldiers were willing to throw in with the leaders against he country itself. US soldiers simply wanted to go home and the professional officer Corps understood that it owed allegiance to the constitution and country, not a General.
