Thank you my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell for sharing a music video of Allison Young performing a cover of Meredith Willson's "Till There Was You " first sung by Sue Rainey
Kudos to our friend LTC Stephen C. for being the first to post the background on this song and sharing the performance from The Music Man.

"Till There Was You " written by Meredith Willson
Lyrics
"There were bells on a hill
But I never heard them ringing
No, I never heard them at all
Till there was you

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
Till there was you

[Pre-Chorus]
Then there was music and wonderful roses
They tell me in sweet fragrant meadows
Of dawn and dew

[Chorus]
There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you

[Pre-Chorus]
Then there was music and wonderful roses
They tell me in sweet fragrant meadows
Of dawn and dew"

[Chorus]
There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you

She did a great job with that cover, CW5 Jack Cardwell. The song is from the highly successful Broadway musical, The Music Man (1957) by Meredith Willson. Barbara Cook sang it on Broadway, but arguably the most well known version is by Shirley Jones in the film adaptation (1962). The Beatles even covered it later in the sixties (1963). Here's the Shirley Jones version from the movie, which I've watched more than once. Frankly, ole Shirley's version is spectacular and hard to beat, but Barbara Cook's original is also magnificent!

LTC Stephen F., I know that Meredith WILLSON wrote the song. I indicated he wrote the musical. I assumed people would know that if he wrote the musical, then he wrote the song as I gave no attribution to anyone else. If anyone else had written the song, I would have said as much. I included the date of 1957. All my references to performing artists were those that sang the song on Broadway. Barbara Cook was the original Marian and was the first to sing the song on Broadway as part of the musical.
Sue RANEY’s version was released as a single in 1957, prior to the opening of The Music Man on Broadway.

I noticed, my friend LTC Stephen C. that you credited Meredith Willson as the songwriter for the song. As you know I research by nature. I wanted to draw attention to the original singer on vinyl :-)

Great music share. I am big into 40’s music. I have never heard this sing before. I don’t know if she is singing an old song or a new song that was written in the style of old music, but I loved it.

Thanks for sharing it. I really enjoyed it.
