Thanks for sharing some significant events of March 29 Maj Marty Hogan
To me the most significant events were:
1936: German Chancellor Adolf Hitler claims overwhelming victory in a plebiscite on his policies. [Foreboding event which at the time did not attract much attention outside of Germany.]
1971: Army Lt. William L. Calley Jr. is convicted of murdering 22 Vietnamese civilians in the My Lai massacre. (Calley ended up serving three years under house arrest.) Calley was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 11th Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Infantry Division.
The Americal Division performed valiantly in WWII but its reputation was tarnished by the My Lai massacre.

The My Lai massacre was a terrible event and many negatives events came out of it. During war, I think American soldiers should be given some authorization to use force as needed but to murder an entire town and kill children is totally without excuse or morality.
