The primary issues are power generation and water flow which are not incompatible my friend PO1 Tony Holland
Caveat: My uncle who worked for the World Bank was involved in several dam projects in Egypt and Sudan in the 1960's

As one of the major rivers in the world, the Nile River is important to many nations. To put it in perspective, who owns the Mississippi River - which US States have the right to create dams on their own which impact the Mississippi River? my friend SP5 Mark Kuzinski :-)

The reservoir fill requirement for the hydroelectric plant being developed by Ethiopia is an issue
1. "The longer it takes to fill the reservoir, which is going to be bigger than Greater London with a total capacity of 74 billion cubic metres, the less impact there will be on the level of the river.
Ethiopia wants to do it in six years.
"We have a plan to start filling on the next rainy season, and we will start generating power with two turbines on December 2020," Ethiopia's Water Minister Seleshi Bekele said in September last year.
2. But Egypt has proposed a longer period - so that the level of the river does not dramatically drop, especially in the initial phase of filling the reservoir. "That new filling timetable required filling the dam to take from 12 to 21 years."
3. Three-way talks between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia over operating the dam and filling its reservoir have made no progress in more four years - which the US has now been trying to mediate.

Hopefully the USA can successfully mediate a solution. IMHO it is amazing that Ethiopia, Susan and Egypt would accept a USA mediatorial team. We have come along way since the benighted and corrupt Arab Spring days. :-)

It certainly could be. Energy, water, food are all resources to fight over apparently
