Well my friend MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. this seems to be a simplistic approach.
1. This would not stop civil war - a third party might enable progressives to win [thanks CWO3 (Join to see) - I concur.
2. Ross Perot and Lyndon LaRouche tried the third party route. Perot siphoned of conservatives and libertarians. LaRouche ran every four years and lost handily - he believed the UK was the source of all evil FYI PO1 William "Chip" Nagel LTC (Join to see)
3. The current administration has instituted class warfare - renters versus landlords, transgender wannabees versus those opposed to children going through regenerative surgery; second amendment supporters versus ant--un and BLM; Critical Race Theory versus common sense and actual history, etc.

A 3 party system scares pols. Cluster enough Progressives and unsure types and elections get risky. Ross Perot as an example.
