We have seen is coming for the last 10 years. China is now building its 4th aircraft Carrier. In my opinion, they want to confront or spoil a counter-attack by the United States by placing 4 aircraft carriers as a screen to keep us out while Taiwan uses its 800 javelin missiles and its older M-60 A3 tanks and other weaponry to stall the people's Republic of China's forces on the beach and in the interior while we mobilize and hopefully come to their aid. If we do not, we will let Taiwan go down in history to defeat. At the end of WW2, Mainland China was Nationalist and its military was strong from US advisors training whole Chinese Nationalist Divisions in preparation to defeat the Japanese. After the war ended, The Nationalist Armies were slowly defeated by the Communists and Former General/Secretary George Marshall hated Chang Kai Shek and he did not support the Nationalists with additional arms and ammunition while Russia was giving captured Japanese weapons and ammunition to Mao Tse Tung's Army causing the Nationalists to retreat to Taiwan by 1949.

In my book, climate change is not the biggest fear but the invasion of Taiwan which will result in climate change of 20 years of global cooling if we have a limited nuclear war. National Geographic published a story 11 years ago on this exact subject discussing how the climate would be cooled by a limited nuclear war between India and China. I have been commenting for 2 years here to forget about climate change, it will come to bite us in the behind if we get into a limited nuclear war. Taiwan also bought new F-16s and as many torpedoes they could get their hands on from Foreign Military Sales.

We had a Defense Treaty with Taiwan that expired in 1980. The PRC just took back Hong Kong, I think they will be emboldened by our internal strife from the moment George Floyd died and the cities surrendered to the leftist protests/riots and now the strife from the insurrection of the fringe right group on the Capitol. The impeachment of Former POTUS Trump may be on your minds but remember that China likes our infighting. I hope President Biden sends a show of force like past Presidents have done. Remember, North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam during the tenure of the weak Ford Administration recovering from the Watergate scandal and POTUS Nixon's resignation. My Social Worker Mother spent 3 weeks at Camp Pendleton helping resettle refugees after the fall of Saigon. We do not want a President Obama Faux line in the Sand. We will also find out if Tony Bobulinksi was right. 108 Abrams M1A2 tanks are on order but it will be about 17-25 tanks a year to Taiwan. Hopefully, POTUS does not interfere with the FMS.

LTC (Join to see) The current administration will be too busy with its own internal issues to pay attention to something so trivial as one nation invading another. The United States' failure to respond will result in some/many of our current allies reassessing their belief in our commitment to their well being.

But - it is not "one nation invading another" - Taiwan is not a nation, it is not an independent country, separate from China. The world, and the UN, does not recognize Taiwan as a nation.

SPC Steve Irvine - first SPC, please tag me when you reply to my posts, it is a curtesy that should be extended when replying.

Now - lets get to the meat and potatoes of this. Taiwan has NEVER declared independence from China, even though it is defacto independent, if they or any nation recognizes them as an independent nation, there will be war with China. China will not sit idly by as a province of theirs becomes a separate country.

In 1978, Jimmy Carter, ceded, by treaty, Taiwan to mainland China, no ifs, ands or butts about it. We also formally recognized the CCP as the legitimate Government of China, so, the Government that is in power in Taiwan is technically and legally, illegitimate. That is the mask that both the US and China are wearing right now. As long as Taiwan does not formally declare independence, they will not invade. The United States has relations with Taiwan, but actively applies influence so Taiwan does not declare independence.

The final issue is this - If we recognize taiwan as a country officially, we break a treaty. China would take steps to correct that issue, and seeing as the entire world recognizes the CCP as the legitimate Government, and recognizes China's claim upon the Island, China would be well within their sovereign rights. How you feel about it is not reality, and feelings will never trump what is actual facts.

And here we go again, with the anti-communist posts, and how people in government are working to make sure that the communists will win.

Steve, we've heard all of this before. Remember them? They are the ones who said that Dwight Eisenhower was a communist sympathizer or worse.

Present some real evidence.

LTC (Join to see) - that isn't evidence of what you are asserting. B1Bs do airshows all the time, hell, my unit did TDY at Air Fete '96 in England, and a Lancer was at that air show. As for the threats, the Communist Chinese have been threatening that for decades.

A1C Doug Towsley - no, he mainly follows the John Birch playbook, and focuses on communist/marxist/socialist and their conspiracy theories.

This will be the first test. If sales go through Taiwan has a chance. If Bien blocks the sale, we know he is too weak willed to mount a defense of the ROC

Absolutely not. China has the ability to keep the US out without using military means. China has huge influence over the US. For instance Sen Feinstein had a chinese spy as her driver for 20 years. Sen McConnell's wife and in-laws have very deep connections to the CCP. Rep Swallwell was caught in a honey pot trap with a Chinese spy. Most of DC is infected by the CCP as well. Lets not forget the Biden family business dealings with communist China. There is a chinese general (supposedly retired) who owns 200 square miles in Texas. Part of it is a wind farm so he is plugged into Texas's power grid (no sneaking in, he is in). He also has a 10,000 foot runway there. China has had US social platforms help them censor the internet there (the US companies were more than happy to help censor people). China dictates to Hollywood and the NBA what they can and can not say. Top US military leaders are more concerned with being social justice warriors than military warriors. On top of that they are afraid to call China an enemy, competitor is all they can muster the courage to say. The US is an open country with no borders. Enemies of all variety's can and do cross the border. The US is willing to fight third world countries that don't have the reach or impact of China, don't count on the US standing up to China. It is a sad state of affairs.

Good narrative. You also have the united front trying to compete with the Nationalist Chinese diaspora in both Canada and the USA.
I live in Canada so I see this article but I'm sure that there is just as much emphasis to sway the opinion of people of Chinese ancestry with the united front interfering in the United States as well as infiltrating all kinds of government or stealing trade secrets to help communist China.

They don't want to admit that if there is a new fear war with China over Taiwan, Will have 20 years of global Cooling. Deals a waste of money if the Earth cools because of A nuclear war.

You are on the money! We have a bad track record in keeping our promises. Think back to Post WWII... We said to Hungary in effect "If the Russians give you any trouble, Whistle, we'll be there." As Mr Michner so accurately portrayed in his book "The Bridge at Andau"... they whistled, hollered & screamed & died. We watched. History repeats itself, we really should try to learn from history.
