Should we bring back the Pledge of Allegiance? I remember as I went through Grade School we use to say this every morning and it gave me a sense of pride and purpose each day! Are the youth of today missing this and will they every understand what it truly means?
Your thoughts and comments are welcome?
THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Our Pledge of Allegiance as we know it is fast becoming a thing of the past. Kids used to say the Pledge of Allegiance along with a prayer before starting the day’s activities.
Below you will see the very touching recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance as told by Red Skelton. They Pledge as we should still teach our children.
Also listed is the “Global Earth Day Pledge” that our children are learning today. Again this is Global. Everything will go global in the “End Times”. This is just another way to ease everyone into it. Be Prepared. It is coming.
On January 14, 1969, Red Skelton touched the hearts of millions of Americans with his "Pledge Of Allegiance", in which he explained the meaning of each and every word. Red Skelton's recitation of the "Pledge of Allegiance" was twice read into the Congressional Record of the United States and received numerous awards.
RED SKELTON: "I remember this one teacher. To me, he was the greatest teacher, a real sage of my time. He had such wisdom. We were all reciting the Pledge Of Allegiance and he walked over. Mr. Lasswell was his name... He said": "I've been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge Of Allegiance all semester and it seems as though it is becoming monotonous to you. If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word:
I
Me; an individual; a committee of one.
Pledge
Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.
Allegiance
My love and my devotion.
To the Flag
Our standard; Old Glory ; a symbol of Freedom; wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody's job.
of the United
That means that we have all come together.
States
Individual communities that have united into forty-eight great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.
And to the Republic
Republic -- a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands
One Nation
One Nation -- meaning, so blessed by God.
Indivisible
Incapable of being divided.
With Liberty
Which is Freedom; the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.
And Justice
The principle, or quality, of dealing fairly with others.
For All
For All -- which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine. And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

This shows how out of touch I am. I didn't know they STOPPED saying the Pledge in schools. It goes to explain so much of what is wrong with this generation.

SSG Paul Ellis - Double Thumbs up and they've only stopped in about 50 percent of the schools around the nation. I agree there is porblem with new generations that lack discipline and parenting. Have a great day Paul!

I don’t know which communist states have stopped having the pledge recited in the schools, but in the public school where I have worked for the past 17 years it is done every school day.

Hell yes....This is why I'm so Patriotic and why I joined the military and why I followed in my fathers footsteps....Doing this everyday in school helped me respect my (our) Country. And made me whom I am today....

As I said in another thread, my part of the country is vert patriotic. The main TV station covering the region shows the Elementary School classes reciting the Pledge twice a day. And, I have never heard a complaint. BTW, prayers are also heard at most events. It is not mandatory to participate, but 99% do, regardless of personal beliefs.

I refer to my closing sentence. There is someone against everything, for some reason or another. Since when did it become mandatory to give up free speech of the many for the few? It would be against our Constitutional rights to demand the few participate and I know of no place where that is done. Much of our social upheaval today has been created by trying to change our past patriotic norms and the basic tenants of religion. JMHO

PFC John Lanni
SFC Tony Bennett - That will never change for you because you sew division and accept the injustices you may have been dealt. I myself would not stand for injustice to myself and as important others. When injustice occurs to other with my knowledge and do not respond through proper channels addressing this issue, I know injustice is coming my way as well. Power and authority do not single out those that will fight for their rights, it singles out the weak. Many submit and become the problem. Fighting for the wrong cause just for the good feeling of fighting for something accomplishes nothing. Hold your head high and fight for the right causes. Divided we fall Brother.

Gee I never thought it left-Since I've retired I occasionally substitute teach at schools in several local school districts here and have subbed in grades kindergarten to 12th grade. I can't think of a time in any class homeroom that I've been in that the day hasn't started with the Pledge of Allegiance! And oh yes-I've never had a student who refused to stand and/or recite the Pledge, this also includes one school in a local district that caters to students who are all of the Muslin religion!

The answer is hell yes. This is your country- that is the Pledge. My grand daughter has been going to Catholic school since Pre-K and they say it every morning. Nothing like watching a room of 4 year old reciting the Pledge while you are there on Veteran Honor Day. Proud Pop moment for me.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - Well, I suppose it could be tied into the fact that illegals don't say the pledge of allegiance...as a rule. I suppose since the state known for its fruits and nuts and whines is a popular destination for those individuals that it could be tied in that way. These people usually have an allegiance to themselves, and perhaps family but country? So I am sure those inconvienent truths I mentioned which you Blue state giveaway folks don't want to hear could marginally be tied in.

No need to "bring it back" because it was never taken away.
Someone has been perpetrating a political hoax to stir people up.
The Pledge of Allegiance is still recited each morning in most, if not all, Public Schools across the country. 43 States, in fact, have laws that REQUIRE educators to lead their classes in the Pledge of Allegiance each morning.

I disagree with that aspect ! We should not be allowed the freedom to decide for ourselves whether we want to be respectful of our nation or not, it should be a requirement for all Americans !

You are fortunate. One of my sons got quite a few years of parochial education. He is by far one of the most hardworking, well grounded and dedicated family men I know.
The others did not and continue to wallow in the immoral sewer which our popular culture has become. They aren't bad but seem incapable of recognizing basic moral failings of our culture. For the most part they are beyond my grasp.

It never left. While I think everyone should stand, those that choose not to pledge should be allowed to stand there quietly while everyone else does the pledge. No one should be forced to recite the pledge, because forced patriotism...isn't.

I'm not the one playing word games here. Threaten a person's livelihood because you don't like their politics, and that's force. That's a fact, not an opinion.

Because it is a fact. Threatening a person's livelihood because you don't like their politics is an attempt to silence them. That may not be physical force, but it IS force just the same, because it's an attempt to compel behavior (or ceasing behavior) based on your personal preferences. That is a fact.

ABSOLUTELY BRING IT BACK!!! Most (not all) kids these days have no sense of patriotism or loyalty to their country because they haven't been taught that.

I would have liked to see an Other option, my friend, since many school systems recite the Pledge of Allegiance still COL Mikel J. Burroughs. While the liberal 9th Circuit ruled against the reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, both the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals have ruled the pledge is constitutional. Even the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled in favor of it.
Where I live in Loudoun County, VA the public school guidance is "MINUTE OF SILENCE and PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ... students observe a Minute of Silence as mandated by the Commonwealth of Virginia. ... should stop what they are doing, remain silent, then recite the pledge before proceeding to class." Background:
September 18, 1892 - The pledge is published for the first time in the juvenile magazine "The Youth's Companion." The pledge is written to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America.
1924 - The words "the flag of the United States of America" put in place of "my Flag." The pledge was originally written - "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
1942 - The pledge is recognized by the U.S. government.
1943 - In West Virginia State Board of Education vs. Barnette (319 U.S. 624), the Supreme Court rules that requiring a person to say the pledge is violating the first and fourteenth amendments. The case involved a Jehovah's Witness student refusing to say the pledge in schools on the grounds it was against his or her religious beliefs.
1954 - President Dwight D. Eisenhower asks Congress to add "under God" to the pledge. Congress adds the phrase.
1998 - Dr. Michael Newdow files suit against the school board of Broward County (Florida) to get the phrase "under God" removed from the pledge. The suit is dismissed for lack of standing. Sandy Banning, the mother of the girl, says that her daughter is not an atheist and has not been harmed by saying the pledge in school. Banning and Newdow have faced custody issues over their daughter.
2000 - Newdow, who is an atheist, brings the case against the Elk Grove school system in California. His daughter attends Florence Markofer Elementary School in Elk Grove.
June 26, 2002 - The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decides that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools is an unconstitutional "endorsement of religion" because of the phrase "under God."
March 24, 2004 - Newdow argues his case before the Supreme Court.
June 14, 2004 - The U.S. Supreme Court dismisses the challenge to the constitutionality of the Pledge of Allegiance on a technicality, saying Newdow does not have legal standing to bring the case.
January 3, 2005 - Michael Newdow and eight co-plaintiffs file suit in a Sacramento federal court, seeking to remove the phrase "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. The eight co-plaintiffs are not named but are parents with custody of their children or children themselves.
July 18, 2005 - Michael Newdow reopens his case and sues four Sacramento area school districts on behalf of his family and several others.
August 10, 2005 - The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upholds a Virginia law that requires public schools to recite the Pledge of Allegiance daily, and rejects a claim that its reference to God is an unconstitutional promotion of religion. The court states that the pledge is not an affirmation of religion similar to a prayer, but simply a patriotic exercise. This suit is raised by a father of three, Edward Myers of Sterling, Virgina, who doesn't believe his children should have to say "one nation under God."
September 14, 2005 - Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in schools is ruled unconstitutional by U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton of U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of California, in Sacramento. He states that the phrase "under God" violates the children's right to be "free from a coercive requirement to affirm God."
January 2009 - Frazier vs. Alexandre - The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals issues a ruling stating under parents' written request, schools can excuse a student from reciting the pledge regardless of the student's personal beliefs.
March 11, 2010 - Newdon vs. Rio Linda Union School District - Michael Newdon, Sacramento attorney, loses his case to remove the words "under God" from the pledge. Newdon has publically fought to remove "God" from the pledge and U.S. currency. Judge Carlos T. Bea writes, "The pledge is one of allegiance to our republic, not of allegiance to the God or to any religion."
November 12, 2010 - The First U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upholds a lower court ruling that a New Hampshire law requiring schools to recite the pledge is not unconstitutional.
October 5, 2012 - State of Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signs legislation that will give all Michigan students the freedom of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in class.
May 9, 2014 - The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts rules that the Pledge of Allegiance does not discriminate against atheists, saying that the words "under God" represent a patriotic, not a religious, exercise.

Well deeper still is the fact that what we now call Spain, was not what it was called then. It was Al Andalus, and until King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella combined their kingdoms into one, did it become Spain. Before that (and our school systems don't like to teach this for obvious reasons) the rulers were Moors. Not Arabs as we see them today, but African Arabs. It is also said in some circles that Columbus was looking to find the West Indies, and he though he did when he landed somewhere in the South America region. This is why he referred to the "natives" as "Indians" because he thought he was in India. And the people of India we know are dark skinned copper colored people. Now the debate and question is; Who did really see when he came here? Copper colored people! Aka Moors! Aka Indians" Aka "so called black people". But that is only for a few to know and the rest to argue.
