Thanks for reminding us that the North Vietnamese Army attack on Plei Me Special Forces camp was a primary cause for what would become the Battle of Ia Drang SP5 Mark Kuzinski. Operation Silver Bayonet was a proof of principle for Airmobile assault since the area was not rechargeable by road without very significant engineering activity not to mention ground security requirements.
The airlift into the the Central Highlands with UH-1C Cobra rocket and gun support was accomplished with an expectation of a Vietnamese Force which turned out to be many times larger than the size of what intelligence projected. The fierce fights became the stuff of legend.
