In hindsight strategic optimism based on some tactical victories indicated poor assessment of ten actual situation and bad judgment on the part of Gen. William Westmoreland, Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker, and Robert W. Komer, the head of the Civil Operations and Revolutionary Development Support program SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
It is important to have advisors who are honest and wise and certainly yes men and women should be avoided as advisors to any POTUS.

Hope that was not yet another boilerplate staff briefing to tell the CO what he wanted to hear in glowing terms and praise the boss for his stellar visionary strategic and tactical thinking. 'We have made progress, but there is still work to be done.'

As it turned out, the '68 Tet offensive was a disastrous loss on the ground for the NVA and was the end of effective action by the V.C., which was a broken force. Had we kept up our courage at that point the war would have had a very different end.

SPC Jeff Daley, PhD, agreed. The first military loss in the history of our country was the gift of our American left. The second loss (Iraq) was also the gift of that same group.

Elections have consequences.
