CW5 Jack Cardwell, this photo was taken at the SF Heavy Weapons FTX, Fort Bragg, NC, AUG70. I'm dropping rounds (assistant gunner) down the tube of the M30, 4.2" mortar during the Weapons NCO Supervisor Candidate Special Forces Course.

I didn’t serve on the type of ships you served on. I had the privilege of serving aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Enterprise.

PO3 Bob McCord - yes it was. Too bad it has been decommissioned and stripped.

PO3 Bob McCord - probably a true scenario. When I was the Executive Director of the Tacoma Seafarers’ Center, a Christian Ministry in the Port of Tacoma, I would see ships come into the Port and load up with tons of scrap metal and take it overseas and who knows who got it and did what with it.

Thank you my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell the video of heavy [4.2 inch mortars] mortar firing from M106 mortar carrier based on the M113. "U.S. Army 8th Infantry Division in Europe during the Cold War as part of NATO forces."
By the way I graduated from the IMPOC class at Fort Benning in August 1980 and as assigned the next year to 1/52 Mech Infantry Battalion where I has an additional duty of mortar OIC for live fires.

I would also like to comment that I was a 4.2" mortar platoon leader and my platoon was 1/2 draftees and 1/2 volunteers(1973)
