Good morning RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "The Space Station Crosses a Spotless Sun." Transiting the Sun is not very unusual for the International Space Station (ISS), which orbits the Earth about every 90 minutes, but getting one's timing and equipment just right for a great image is rare. This composite image (one of ISS transiting the Sun and one of the Sun itself) also shows a Sun without any sunspots. A period where sunspots are few and far between (like the one we are in now) is called a Solar Minimum. A period of greater numbers of sunspots and other solar activity is called a Solar Maximum.
