Thank you my friend PO1 William "Chip" Nagel for making us aware that leader of the Afghan resistance group Ahmad Massoud said he supported a plan, put forward by religious clerics, for a negotiated settlement, and called on the Taliban to end their offensive.
Panjshir, a rugged mountain valley, is home to between 150,000 and 200,000 people. It was a centre of resistance when Afghanistan was under Soviet occupation in the 1980s and during the Taliban's previous period of rule, between 1996 and 2001.

Open to peace talks with Taliban, says Resistance Front leader

Panjshir is nestled in extremely rugged terrain; Panjshir is a stronghold that is not easy to reach. It is just 90 miles northeast of Kabul in the Northeastern region of Afghanistan in the Panjshir Valley. With Pakistan's assistance, the Panjshir Valley has fallen into the hands of the Taliban finally; however, resistance continues. The Resistance has also sounded that it is ready to cooperate with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The veep og the Ghani administration, who claimed power as defacto president in the wake of Ghani's flight out of Afghanistan as the Taliban stormed Kabul has also fled the country. The leader of the Panjshir Resistance Group has gone underground and his whereabouts are unknown. The Taliban have claimed victory over the Panjshir Valley, which was the final stronghold of resistance against the Taliban.

Afghanistan needs peace post war and internal chaos; the Taliban should allow foreigners to depart from Kabul, Mazar-I-Sharif and Kandahar, in fact, the Taliban should offer security for such operations. This will legitimize a changed Taliban ethos...a more friendly approach to foreign governments.
