Interesting that in an age of force reduction the Air Combat Command probably recognizes that fixed wing combat aircraft have limited utility outside of declared war. On the other hand the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper medium-altitude unmanned aircraft can be used in any area where we are fighting the GWOT SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
The ACC is throwing out the carrot that officers and NCOs who move to the medium-altitude unmanned aircraft operations positions will have opportunities for advancement as posited squadrons and wings are added to the USAF structure. Of course that will require Congressional approval to increase the size/structure of the USAF.
"With that effort, we're going to get more leadership positions for our guys so they have the opportunity to move up in the Air Force," the chief said. From an enlisted, sensor operator perspective, he said this could boast more chief master sergeant and senior master sergeant openings. For officers, the RPA community wants to create more squadron, group or wing commander positions."
